5 signs your brakes will need attention soon

Squeaking, vibration and a longer stopping distance are signs that a brake inspection should not be delayed.

Brakes often give an early warning when something is wrong. The most common symptoms are squeaking, steering wheel or pedal vibration, the car pulling slightly during braking and a longer stopping distance.

If the pads are worn, you may hear a metallic or sharp sound, especially at low speeds. If the disc is uneven or warped, braking may cause vibration that can be felt in the pedal and sometimes even in the steering wheel.

Sometimes the issue is old brake fluid, a sticking caliper or unevenly worn components. The driver does not need to diagnose it alone, but these symptoms should not be ignored.

If the brake feel changes, have the system inspected sooner rather than later. Delaying brake work is one of those cases where a small issue can quickly become both more expensive and more dangerous.
